Drifting along just my buddy and me,
With a group of divers way back, I can't see,
On a huge table coral just posing for me,
Lay the biggest turtle I ever did see,
I reached for my camera I'd just left to dangle,
But I'd fitted my macro, and not my wide angle.
Indonesia – wow – “Welcome to Jurassic Park” is the only way to describe it. The volcanic terrain and the underwater scenery and critters are absolutely amazing. But as for the people they are definitely not Jurassic, their hospitality is definitely what we in the twenty first century expect when we go on a holiday, be it diving, exploring, sightseeing or just to relax. I stayed at Tasik Ria and Kungkungan Bay resorts which were recommended to me by Aquatours, who I should say were very helpful in making sure we got exactly what we wanted out of a dive trip, as well as taking all the stress out of organizing a multi- resort trip. Both resorts are located in magnificent, tropical settings. Tasik Ria is close to the Bunaken Bay national park which has some spectacular wall dives. While there I took the opportunity to commandeer one of the small boats so that I could dive alone with just my guide to get clearer shots in undisturbed water. Dan, the proprietor at Tasik Ria, was one hell of a host. He was always around making sure his guests, as well as his staff, were completely happy and that all their needs were tended to. On the day I was to leave and transfer to the other resor,t Dan and his staff sang a traditional goodbye to me and I really felt that I was leaving some very dear friends behind. I very much hope to return one day. Kungkungan Bay, or KBR as it’s known, lies on the Lembeh Strait and is renowned as ‘the’ muck-diving centre of the world. This is a must do for any serious underwater photographer. Once again, outstanding service.
